Rankle and Reynolds

Sparks fly with collaborators Rankle and Reynolds.

Kirsten Reynolds’s practice includes drawing, painting, sculpture, collage and printmaking along with radical experiments in sound, light, electronics and found objects. Alan Rankle, known for his on-going engagement with landscape and his innovative approach to painting, has been re-presenting classical styles and techniques in challenging and hybrid works since the early nineties.

The series On the Edge of Wrong developed from themes found in Reynolds’ seminal light photographs, where she captured a series of long exposures while drawing with light – the locations for these photographs were inspired by Rankle’s paintings

‘There are interesting parallels to be drawn between Rankle’s re-invention of the representational landscape and Reynolds re-positioning of the viewer’s perspective on our natural surroundings.’

On the Edge of Wrong evokes a disorienting sense of place – vibrant colours and anxious energy represent threatening terrain. The vulnerability of the landscape is emphasised through abstraction.
