A portrait of place, a landscape of possibility
The Time of Dreaming the World Awake captures a rural microcosm in the South of France. The ‘magic’ mountain was linked with the Mayan 2012 prophecy – apparently pencilled in as a post-apocalyptic Arcadia.
Dublin based photographer Yvette Monahan began photographing Bugarach and its residents 21 December 2011 and continued to document the landscape and people for the next year.
The series evokes an emotional response. Each photograph captures the mist and mystery of the people and the landscape. Lonely, poetic and alluring – The Time of Dreaming the World Awake creates an impeccable equilibrium between Bugarach and its inhabitants.
