Chris Bracey – I’ve Looked up to Heaven and Been Down to Hell – Scream Gallery

Like any work of art, it’s got spirit. Neon is only happy when it’s on, when it’s alive’

With humble beginnings in Soho sex-signage, Chris Bracey now lists Damien Hirst, Kate Moss and Vivienne Westwood as patrons.

Chris Bracey - Hands of God

His mastery of the neon is soothingly, beautifully kitsch.

An education in the medium started at a young age. His father was a neon-sign maker, working in fairgrounds and amusement parks; this eclectic past informs Bracey’s aesthetic and is echoed in his use of vintage lights, found objects and self-produced neon.

Bracey has become well known in the film industry, creating neon for Blade Runner, The Dark Knight Rises and Eyes Wide Shut.

Chris Bracey - No Place Like Utopia

Born, raised and living in East London, this is Bracey’s first UK solo show. A neon hand in a Scream-shaped glove – I’ve Looked up to Heaven and Been Down to Hell  is peppered with religious imagery, sex, tattoos and rock ‘n’ roll. Jesus is packing heat, and saints and sinners find their way betwixt spread legs.
